Why the Windows build is the flagship Telegram experience
The Windows installer is the reference implementation of Telegram Desktop. It ships the same UI you will see on Linux and macOS, but tailors keyboard shortcuts, jump lists and window snapping to the Windows way of working. If you spend most of your day on a desktop keyboard, this is the client to install.
System requirements
- OS: Windows 10, 11 (Windows 7 SP1 build ships as a legacy download)
- Architecture: x64 (a portable x86 build is available upstream)
- Disk space: ≈ 220 MB after install, plus space for cached media
- RAM: 2 GB minimum, 4 GB recommended
- Network: Any TCP/UDP connection, works behind SOCKS5 and HTTPS proxies
Install Telegram on Windows in five steps
- Start the Windows installer. Click the download button. Your browser will save tsetup.6.2.3.exe to the Downloads folder. Right-click it and choose Run as administrator if your organisation requires elevation.
- Choose the install location. The wizard defaults to %LocalAppData%\Telegram Desktop so the app can update itself without admin rights. Advanced users can switch to Program Files for a machine-wide install.
- Pick language and shortcuts. Telegram Desktop is fully localized for English (US and UK). Enable the Start Menu shortcut and, optionally, the desktop icon. Click Install.
- Sign in with your phone. Launch Telegram, enter your country and phone number, then paste the confirmation code from your existing device (or from the SMS if this is your first client).
- Import stickers and cloud media. Telegram will immediately begin pulling your cloud archive — chats, pinned messages, sticker packs and Saved Messages — down to the new install.
Feature highlights on Windows
Multi-account switcher
Sign in with up to three phone numbers side-by-side and switch between them from the sidebar in one click.
Silent enterprise deployment
The installer accepts /S /D=path flags, making it easy to push through SCCM, Intune or PowerShell DSC scripts.
System tray & taskbar
Minimise to tray, jump-list quick actions and Windows 11 rounded corners are all supported out of the box.
Screen-share & video calls
High-quality group video calls, noise-suppressed audio and full-screen share are baked into the desktop client.
Updates and safety notes
- Verify that the installer name starts with tsetup and comes from this hub — pirated forks often add adware.
- Windows SmartScreen may prompt on first launch; choose "More info → Run anyway" to continue.
- Cloud chats are protected in transit; enable Two-Step Verification inside Settings → Privacy for extra safety.
- Uninstall through Settings → Apps to remove local cache; your cloud data is untouched.
Telegram Desktop updates itself in the background whenever a new version ships. If you prefer manual updates, disable the option inside Settings → Advanced → Auto-update.
Windows vs. other Telegram editions
Compared with the macOS build the Windows installer offers deeper tray integration and silent install support. Unlike Telegram Web it caches media locally, so scrolling through media-heavy chats is faster. If you travel between phones and desktops, pair Windows with the Android APK or the iOS app — every message stays in sync.
Windows install FAQ
How do I install Telegram silently on Windows? Run tsetup.6.2.3.exe /S from an elevated shell. Add /D="C:\\Telegram" to target a custom path.
Where does Windows store Telegram data? Cached media lives under %AppData%\\Telegram Desktop. Deleting the folder clears local cache without touching your cloud archive.
Is Telegram on the Microsoft Store? Yes — the Store build tracks the same version. This portal ships the standalone installer so it can be deployed on managed devices without Store access.
