How to install the Telegram APK

  1. Enable unknown-source installs. In Android Settings, allow your browser (Chrome or otherwise) to install unknown apps. This is only required for APKs outside the Play Store.
  2. Tap Download APK. Your browser will fetch Telegram_10.14.2.apk. Files land in the Downloads folder by default.
  3. Verify the file. Long-press the APK, check that the file size matches the panel above and that the package name is org.telegram.messenger.
  4. Install and open. Tap the APK, choose Install and wait a few seconds. Then hit Open to launch Telegram directly from the installer.
  5. Sign in and enable notifications. Enter your phone number, confirm the SMS code, and allow notifications so background messages actually wake the device.

Safety notes for APK installs

  • Verify the package signature: the SHA-256 fingerprint of the official APK matches the Play Store build.
  • Always disable unknown-source installs after finishing to prevent accidental sideloads later.
  • For extra safety, install Telegram on a work profile using Shelter or the Android Work profile feature.
  • Enable Passcode Lock under Settings → Privacy and Security to require a PIN or biometric before opening chats.

Android vs. other editions

Android has broader access to the file system than Telegram for iOS, and offers features such as scoped storage exports. If you also use a desktop, pair the APK with Windows or macOS — every message stays in sync. On a shared computer that cannot install anything, use Telegram Web.

Is the Telegram APK safe? Yes — the file is signed by Telegram Messenger LLP with the same key as the Play Store build. Compare the SHA-256 hash under About → Version if you want to verify.

Will installing the APK conflict with Play Store? No. As long as signatures match, Play Store will offer future updates directly on top of the APK install.
