Why sideload the Telegram APK
Direct APK installs cover three real-world scenarios: phones sold without Google services, aggressive market delays, and enterprise devices where the Play Store is restricted. The APK ships the same signature Telegram uses on Google Play, so cloud sync, stickers and notifications keep working as expected.
System requirements
- Android: Android 5.0 (Lollipop) up to Android 14
- Architecture: ARM64, ARMv7 and x86 fat APK — the same package works on foldables and tablets
- Storage: ≈ 55 MB APK, up to 2 GB cache managed under Settings → Data and Storage
- RAM: 2 GB minimum, 3 GB or more for smooth video calls
- Delivery: Direct APK from this hub or via Google Play (identical build)
How to install the Telegram APK
- Enable unknown-source installs. In Android Settings, allow your browser (Chrome or otherwise) to install unknown apps. This is only required for APKs outside the Play Store.
- Tap Download APK. Your browser will fetch Telegram_10.14.2.apk. Files land in the Downloads folder by default.
- Verify the file. Long-press the APK, check that the file size matches the panel above and that the package name is org.telegram.messenger.
- Install and open. Tap the APK, choose Install and wait a few seconds. Then hit Open to launch Telegram directly from the installer.
- Sign in and enable notifications. Enter your phone number, confirm the SMS code, and allow notifications so background messages actually wake the device.
Android-only touches
Battery-friendly sync
Telegram uses long-polling and push tokens optimally so it barely moves the battery meter — even on older mid-range phones.
Local + cloud storage
Every chat is in the cloud; local storage acts as a smart cache with per-chat size limits under Data and Storage.
Themes, folders, chat filters
Create work / personal folders, apply full custom themes and enable chat filters — all built in, no third-party mods needed.
Split screen and tablet UI
Android 12L+ tablets and foldables switch to a two-pane layout automatically; drag chats between windows in split-screen mode.
Safety notes for APK installs
- Verify the package signature: the SHA-256 fingerprint of the official APK matches the Play Store build.
- Always disable unknown-source installs after finishing to prevent accidental sideloads later.
- For extra safety, install Telegram on a work profile using Shelter or the Android Work profile feature.
- Enable Passcode Lock under Settings → Privacy and Security to require a PIN or biometric before opening chats.
Android vs. other editions
Android has broader access to the file system than Telegram for iOS, and offers features such as scoped storage exports. If you also use a desktop, pair the APK with Windows or macOS — every message stays in sync. On a shared computer that cannot install anything, use Telegram Web.
Android FAQ
Is the Telegram APK safe? Yes — the file is signed by Telegram Messenger LLP with the same key as the Play Store build. Compare the SHA-256 hash under About → Version if you want to verify.
Will installing the APK conflict with Play Store? No. As long as signatures match, Play Store will offer future updates directly on top of the APK install.
Where do I find the Telegram beta? Telegram runs a public beta channel on Google Play; the APK on this page tracks the stable release.
